Police assault during arrest

A POLICE officer was punched in the face during a disturbance outside the Coffs Hotel early yesterday.

Security guards had earlier waved down police when a male was allegedly threatening to assault someone on the other side of the road at 12.20am.

Police arrived on the scene and asked two men to move on from the area.

One of the men allegedly failed to comply and was arrested and taken to the police truck.

His friend allegedly tried to intervene and he struggled with officers. He was handcuffed and also taken to the police truck.

A constable was then punched by one of the men, police allege.

A man, 24, will face court on charges of offensive behaviour, resisting arrest and assaulting police. A man, 28, will also appear in court on charges of hindering police and resisting arrest.
