Police hunt for man who may have snatched and killed toddler
POLICE are hunting a man who may have snatched and killed a toddler in the Melbourne suburb of Heidelberg West.
The body of missing 15-month-old girl Sanaya Sahib was found partially submerged in a creek about 2.45am yesterday.
Detective Senior Sergeant Stuart Bailey said the toddler was in a pram being pushed by her 22-year-old mother, Sofina Nikat, in Olympic Park about 10am on Saturday, when the Sanaya was snatched.
"[Ms Nikat] noticed a male walking towards her; that male has folded in behind her and has then pushed her to the ground, has taken the child from the pram and run in a south-westerly direction on the eastern side of Darebin Creek," he said.
Det Snr Sgt Bailey said police were searching for the man of African appearance, aged 20 to 30 years and about 1.9 metres tall.
