Pledger's day out

SAWTELL winger Mark Pledger certainly had a day to remember as the Panthers rode roughshod over Macleay Valley yesterday.

Pledger scored eight of his team's 17 tries as Sawtell easily won 90-0.

Prior to yesterday's encounter Macleay Valley already looked like they were in for a long 2009 and yesterday's result made an extra case to support the contention.

In three games now the Mustangs have scored a total of only two tries and are facing an uphill battle to stop Nambucca Heads from winning next week.

To list the Macleay woes though is to ignore a ruthless and professional performance by Sawtell.

New coach Rohan Louden was pleased with how his team never took their foot off Macleay Valley's throat.

While the game is always easier when you dominate possession, it was the improvement in combinations as well as another strong display by the pack that had Panther fans thinking that this might finally be their year.
