Play Sawtell over Easter

AFTER two very successful years the Sawtell Golf Club can't wait for Easter to come around again so they can once again host their annual Open Easter tournament.

This year's incarnation of the event promises to be the best yet according to event chairman Trevor Ridge.

More than $6000 in sponsorship has been secured for the three-day event and the players who tackle the Sawtell layout will be vying for the 68 prizes on offer during the long weekend.

Already the entries received show players from 20 different clubs coming from Sydney/Newcastle area in the south to Brisbane in the north playing over the Easter break with many of the players returning for the third time such is their enjoyment of the event.

Also returning will be last year's major winners in Craig Hyde (Armidale) and Sue Wallis (Urunga).

While the main event is the Sawtell Open Easter Classic which is played on the Saturday and Sunday, the festivities begin on Good Friday with a 2BBB stableford event.

The Open Easter Classic is a stroke event for men with handicaps of 13 or lower while it is a stableford competition for the higher markers.

All ladies events will be played under the stableford format while there are also senior events on the list.

Any local club members wanting to play are asked to contact the Sawtell Golf Club on 6653 1006.
