Plan around triathlon road closures this weekend

TO HELP cater for the more than 550 entries received for this weekend's BCU Triathlon events, some road closures will take place during race times.

All affected intersections will be under traffic control and all their instructions must be obeyed.

The section of road that will be most affected is Jordan Esplanade between the Marina Dr roundabout and the Camperdown St intersection.

Despite this interuption, the Yacht Club and Marina will be accessible all weekend.

The Deep Sea Fishing Club and boat ramp will also be accessible all weekend via the intersection at Harbour Dr and Edinburgh St, turning onto Nile St then via one lane in Camperdown St.

The airport will be accessible all weekend although late on Saturday and on Sunday morning all airport traffic will be via the Albany St and Hogbin Dr roundabout.

Event organisers Village Sports Coffs Harbour apologised for any inconvenience the road closures may cause but said providing a safe environment for all participants was paramount.

Saturday's races commence at 1.30pm for children aged 5-13, with the 'Enticer' event starting at 4.30pm for those trying the sport for the first time.

Sunday will see the headline Olympic distance event with 350 competitors hitting the water from 7.45am.

Village Sports event director Mick Maley has been working tirelessly in the lead-up to the event but he said it's the participants who deserve the most thanks this weekend.

"Spectators are welcome and encouraged to come along and support the competitors, give out high-fives and cheer the athletes across the line," Mr Maley said.

The event raises much needed funds for Life Education, Camp Quality, Coffs Early Childhood Intervention, Coffs Coast Autism and various other local volunteer organisations that have helped bring the event to fruition.
