Pioneer professor to speak about Meniere's disease

MENIERE'S disease will gain a higher profile on the Coffs Coast next month when a world expert on the condition speaks at a Coffs Harbour forum.

Professor William Gibson will be a special guest speaker at a Meniere's Disease Forum at the Coffs Harbour Education Campus on March 7.

The forum will be held at the Lower Lecture Theatre on March 7 from 1.30pm to 4.30pm.

Professor Gibson is currently head of the Ear, Nose and Throat Unit within the Department of Surgery at The University of Sydney.

His major interest is otology and he has pioneered methods of examining the ear electrophysiologically as a method of diagnosis of Meniere's disease.

He has also suggested the 'drainage theory' in Meniere's disease as the cause of attacks and has removed the endolymphatic sac in ears affected by the disease. He received a gold medal from The Prosper Meniere Society in 1998. In 1995 he became a Member of the Order of Australia.

Meniere's disease is a disorder of the inner ear. Admission to the forum is free, everyone is welcome and afternoon tea will be served.

This forum is being sponsored by Quota International of Coffs Harbour.
