Pilot and his pooch survive crash landing

A PILOT and his dog were the only passengers on board when a six-seater plane crash landed at Mackay Airport this afternoon.

Mackay Police district duty officer senior Sergeant Mark Sweetnam said all emergency services attended the scene but no one was injured.

"Commercial flights were put on hold while the airport was cleared, but they're back to normal now," he said.

The incident occurred as a wheel collapsed when the plane was landing.

An alert on the Mackay Airport website said "the team at Mackay Airport are working to get operations back up and running as soon as possible after an incident with a light aircraft closed the runway temporarily".

"Fortunately the single passenger is safe and well. Will update when more information is available," the statement said.

Some departing and arriving flights tonight were delayed up to an hour.
