Phantom the koala joey holds onto mum during surgery

AUSTRALIA Zoo has posted some adorable photos of little koala joey Phantom holding tight to his mother Lizzie during surgery.

Lizzy the koala was hit by a car on the Warrego Highway in Coominya.

Phantom, was unscathed, but Lizzy suffered facial trauma and a collapsed lung.

Phantom is only six months old and too young to be without mum, so zoo staff let him stick around during the surgery.

Lizzy and Phantom are just one of the 58,000 native wildlife animals treated at Australia Zoo so far.
