Perfect weather for a catch

GOTCHA: There have been quite a few tailor and dart around Fraser Island Hervey Bay, in particular near Poyungan and Yidney Rocks.

Try for whiting in the low tide gutters.

However, there is still a fair amount of erosion around Poyungan and Yidney Rocks with the rocks exposed but they are usually passable an hour or so either side of low tide.

Otherwise try for bream, whiting, flathead, and a few chopper tailor off the ocean and western beaches.

We have also had reports of jew feeding overnight.

There is threadfin salmon and barra in Sandy Straits as well as the Mary River, with flathead, bream and whiting between the harbour and around Woody Island.

Blue salmon have been reported on the flats in the Straits while bream, whiting and flathead in the lower reaches of the Mary River and mangrove jack in the Burrum River.

At Rainbow Beach, chopper tailor, trevally and bream have been feeding off Inskip Point.

Tin Can Bay and the creeks feeding into the Sandy Straits are still having mangrove jack feeding, quality dusky flathead, bream and the odd barra.

The mud crabs are still on the move and there are a few sandies in Tin Can Bay.

In the freshwater scene, there have been quality Golden Perch, saratoga and bass on offer at Bjelke-Petersen, Lake Boondooma and Borumba Dam.

Try for bass in the upper reaches of the Mary River.

Offshore, and today's new moon phase will defiantly have the fish feeding well into next week.

Weather conditions for today are looking good with winds south-easterly 10 to 15 knots and seas below 1m.

For Saturday and Sunday conditions are looking excellent with sunny skies and lighter winds.

Tomorrow will have see winds east to south-easterly about 10 knots with seas below one metre.

Sunday will b the best day however with a very light south-westerly breeze.

This week, North Reef has been fishing well for grass sweetlip, moses perch, pearl perch,

good quality snapper, northern bluefin tuna, Spanish mackerel, jewfish and venus tusk fish.

A few good snapper, spanish mackerel, along with mac tuna and longtail tuna have been reported off Mooloolaba and close in right along the coast.

A few snapper and grassy sweetlip on the Gneering Shoals and tusk fish,

hussar, bigger snapper and coronation trout on the Barwon Banks.

South of Double Island Point is fishing well for tusk-fish, maori and gold spot cod, mackerel, cobia, amberjack and plenty of mac tuna.

The reefs off Rainbow Beach and Double Island Point and about 15nm SE of Wide Bay Bar has snapper, pearl perch, sweetlip and moses perch.

About 20nm north of Wide Bay, there have been reports of snapper coming on the bite as well as the odd red emperor, pearl perch, tuskfish, sweetlip and longtail tuna; also plenty of tuna.

If you want to see your fishing photo in the paper, send it as a jpg to sport@gympietimes.com.
