PEPPER the pig proved to be the prima donna of Monday’s Orara Valley Fair.

The 12 year old porker, a veteran of visits to the Fair, refused to mount the scales so a winner could be chosen for the Guess the Weight of the Pig competition.

Her undaunted owner, Cathy Hoschke finally managed to coax her on to the cattle weighbridge, where she tipped the scales at 145kg, making Fair visitor Brian Jenkins the winner for his guess of 146kg, closely followed by Steve and Robin Gossard.

Monday’s Orara Valley Fair raised more than $5000 for local charities and community facilities, in spite of wet weather that dampened crowd expectations, said Fair Secretary Dianne Kingsford-Smith.

Mrs Kingsford Smith said the help of Human Endeavour, which provided a covered stage for the event meant that the extensive and varied entertainment program was able to go ahead unaltered.
