Pedestrian killed at Bellingen

POLICE are investigating the death of a woman, who was struck by a vehicle as she walked on the outskirts of Bellingen last night.

The woman, who crash scene investigators say was a 32-year-old local, was hit by a vehicle believed to have been a four-wheel-drive on the Waterfall Way, about one kilometre west of the town about 8pm.

Bypassers raised the alarm and attempted first aid on the woman, before paramedics arrived.

An ambulance spokesperson confirmed the woman died at the scene.

Police spoke to her family and witnesses and established a crime scene.

A 45-year-old man later attended Coffs Harbour Police Station and is currently assisting with inquiries.

Officers attached to the Coffs Clarence Local Area Command are today continuing their investigation.

Any witnesses to the accident are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
