Pedestrian hit by car on busy Mackay street

A PEDESTRIAN has been hit by a car on one of Mackay's busiest streets, shutting it to traffic.

Police and Queensland Ambulance paramedics are at the scene of the incident on Shakespeare Street.

The incident occurred just before 11am.

Emergency services are on scene and the road has been closed to traffic.

A QAS spokeswoman said one person has been taken to Mackay Base Hospital in a stable condition.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area as emergency services attend to the scene.
