Pat Cummins ready to play second Ashes Test at Lord’s

CRICKET: He hasn't been part of a Test match since making his debut in South Africa almost four years ago, but young Australian paceman Pat Cummins says he is ready to play in the second Ashes Test at Lord's, starting tomorrow night, if needed.

The 22-year-old, who earned man-of-the-match honours against the Proteas after finishing with 7-117, has battled back and ankle injuries since announcing his arrival in Johannesburg in November, 2011.

But after arriving in England as the replacement for retired fast bowler Ryan Harris, Cummins said he was confident he could play if required.

"I haven't played a lot of red ball cricket in the last little while, but I've still played a lot of T20s and one-dayers and been bowling a lot, so in terms of my body I feel 100 per cent confident," he said.

If in-form paceman Mitchell Starc (ankle) is ruled out, selectors will have to decide between Cummins or Peter Siddle.
