OUTSTANDING: Cancer Council volunteer Jennifer Lock

Passionate volunteer’s work honoured

SAWTELLIAN Jennifer Lock has been acknowledged as one of the Mid North Coast's most valued volunteers at the Mid North Coast Volunteer of the Year awards.

Jennifer was one of only three finalists in the senior category, recognising the work of volunteers 65 and over.

She has been volunteering with Cancer Council NSW for more than five years and is the Media Liaison Assistant in the Coffs Harbour office. She supports the team by writing media releases about upcoming events, fundraising initiatives and Cancer Council's support, prevention and advocacy programs.

Originally from Victoria, Mrs Lock has called Sawtell home for the last 20 years. Her writing and communication skills were honed through numerous jobs in advertising, including running her own agency. As well as volunteering with the Cancer Council, Mrs Lock is also the secretary of the Woolgoolga Orchid Society.

"My job is so rewarding and it is a privilege to speak to so many wonderful people who are either in remission, are still battling cancer or looking after someone going through their cancer journey," Jennifer said.

"Their stories are quite profound and inspiring. I work with the hope that one day we will find a cure for all cancers."
