Man fined for bus driver assault
A 54-YEAR-old airport shuttle-bus driver got into a fight with one of the passengers he was transporting, a court heard yesterday.
Passenger Carry Noel Rossow yesterday pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm to the driver when he was dropped off at Forest Glen on May 9.
Magistrate John Hodgins said the driver believed Rossow was intoxicated when he hit him in the cheekbone and caused a number of injuries.
He ordered him to pay a $400 fine and $400 compensation. Rossow told Maroochydore Magistrates Court he was protecting himself but he had obtained legal advice and there was no point defending the charge.
The disability pensioner said the driver's story was more believable than his, especially when the driver had witnesses who claimed they could see what happened.
Rossow claimed he could not have swung punches as alleged because he had steel rods in his back and was on a lot of valium at the time.
"I ended up in hospital that night. He didn't," he said.
"My phone, laptop and glasses were smashed that night."
