Party balloons at sea mistaken for crashed hang glider

FEARS a hang glider or kite surfer may have been in trouble this morning off Woolgoolga have been put to rest.

A triple-0 call was placed to emergency services around 9.30am with reports there was a large object floating offshore, which from land appeared to be a hang glider.

Ambulance paramedics and water police were notified and rushed to the location.

Coffs Harbour Water Police Supervisor Sergeant Don Stewart said the water police were on patrol this morning when they received the call.

"We have since found the floating object is nothing more than party balloons," Srgt Stewart said.

"It appears onlookers may have mistaken the balloons for a hang glider, fortunately that is not the case up here off Woolgoolga."
