Parliamentary pride for Arkan

JOHN Arkan was perhaps the happiest man to ever visit NSW Parliament during a special ceremony last week.

John, who is also a Coffs Harbour City councillor, was there for the Vaisakhi Celebration, which has been marked by the Punjabi Council of Australia at Parliament House for the past three years.

This colourful event featured a cultural program focusing on devotional songs and dances.

Importantly, the tremendous contributions of Punjabis to our society were recognised with the Pride of Punjabi's awards, with John a worthy recipient.

These are made to distinguished individuals who have devoted their time to helping their communities.

The great festival of harvest called Vaisakhi is traditionally celebrated by organising prayers, dance and sports festivals.

It coincides with the Baptism of Sikh faith by tenth master Guru Gobind Singh in 1699 at Anandpur Sahib in Punjab India.
