IT has been a whirlwind 10 weeks for Park Beach community activists who are campaigning to restore the reputation of their neighbourhood.

“We all love where we live, but we want to see improvements in important areas of crime and safety, community harmony and participation, youth engagement and our streetscape,” said resident Jenny Grant.

An initial doorknock was followed by meetings, street walks, newsletters and the formation of a Neighbourhood Watch group.

This week another important step saw the Park Beach Community Group formally incorporated as an association.

“Incorporation means we can receive financial assistance, enter into contracts, organise events and effect insurance for our volunteers,” said Ms Grant, who is the newly-elected president of the group.

“We envisage running events throughout the year to bring people together for fun, education, health and community building.”

The first event is a huge community garage sale planned for December 18 at a venue to be announced.
