WHILE most lovers of the round ball game are looking forward to June because of the onset of the FIFA World Cup, two local players can’t wait for next month because of a completely different reason.
Kye Duncan and George Carpenter have been selected to represent the North Coast Under 12s PSSA team which will be playing in the State championship played at Nowra from June 8 to 10.
While the team’s colours of green and gold will no doubt inspire 12-year-old Duncan from Sandy Beach PS and the 11-year-old Carpenter from Narranga PS, the pair is sure to put up a strong showing anyway considering they’re the only two selected from the Coffs Coast for the 16 man squad.
The North Coast team covers the gigantic area from Tweed Heads to Port Macquarie making training together almost impossible.
This hurdle was overcome last weekend when all of the team members met in Lismore to have a one-off training weekend to get to know each other and work out some set plays.
Even in this short time the team has gelled well together ensuring a fun week should be had by all.
Unfortunately Duncan was unable to participate in the drills due to an ongoing Harry Kewell-like groin injury.
Both boys are doing their best to ensure they are fit and well to make the most of this opportunity playing against the best primary school players in the State.
