Out West birthday bash set to stun

IT WAS always going to be colourful, with more bright sequins and make-up than Ipswich has ever seen in a pub before.

But when Peter Robinson started Out West nearly three years ago, he never expected the monthly event featuring drag entertainers would last this long.

Mr Robinson and alter ego Dianna Tunne'l started the group in October 2008 to build acceptance for the gay community in Ipswich.

He said it has grown bigger than he ever imagined, with a straight following as strong as the gay and bisexual crowd that frequent the performance nights.

"I thought it would only last a year, but the support of the community has been fantastic.

"We tried to make a good night out with a real friendly feel, and I think that has worked out well.

"Hopefully it can continue to carry on into the future."

To celebrate Out West's third birthday, a performance will be held at the City View Hotel on October 15 from 6pm to late.

Entry is $10 for non-members.
