Our Jetty survey a winner

THE release of the results from the Advocate’s Pre-Election Snapshot has dramatically lifted spirits within the corridors of the Coffs Harbour City Council.

The director of Corporate Business Craig Milburn, who heads up an internal working group developing plans for infrastructure updates at the Jetty, said the show of public support for a revitalisation of the area was exciting.

“That such a large proportion of residents want the Jetty area upgraded is very encouraging,” Mr Milburn said.

“The results of your survey are really positive. They have given all the council staff a lift.”

Mr Milburn said the next meeting of the internal working party is due to be held on April 2 and will now no doubt be dominated by the strong show of support that the Snapshot has revealed.

Major infrastructure upgrades of the Jetty area are already on the drawing board at the council which is receipt of a $457,000 Federal Government grant which it will match dollar for dollar.

“We are working on getting sewerage to the area, upgrading the barbecue facilities and amenities and doing some drainage work.

“We have to do this before the end of the year and all of it needs to be done before we can move forward with other improvements.”

Mr Milburn said he hoped to soon announce a timeframe for a major consultation process on a masterplan for the Jetty.

“The good thing is we will be able to draw from the good elements of the many previous Jetty plans.

“We will be restricted by the fact we can only develop projects for council-owned land but I’m now confident that we can start moving ahead with strong community support.”
