Origin Game 1: NSW player ratings
WHO starred and who struggled in State of Origin I?
Check out our game one player ratings for NSW.
1. James Tedesco (10)
Easily the best of all the backs. The fullback is a classic example of not needing club form to make an impact in Origin. He set up tries and he saved them. Fantastic performance. Scored a cracking solo try in the second half. Produced two try saving tackles in the second half. Give that man a new ... wait they're not the sponsor. Toss him a cold VB or 10 to match his rating.
2. Blake Ferguson (6)
Was solid in attack but concerning in defence. Gave the Maroons several half chances and was outjumped by Corey Oates to concede a try.
3. Josh Dugan (6.5)
Made his carries out of trouble. Solid contribution. Came off early in the second half before an injury to Mitch Pearce forced him back on. Made a try saving tackle on Guerra late in the game.
4. Jarryd Hayne (7.5)
He's back baby. Put Brett Morris into space in the first half off the back of some vintage movement. Made a few poor choices in defence but made up for that with his efforts in attack. Scored a try in the second half. 7.5.
5. Brett Morris (7)
Made an important cover tackle on Matt Gillett after Boyd Cordner missed the tackle. Reliable. Did his job. Split the defence open on several occasions. 7.5.
6. James Maloney (7)
The little fella is brave. He was bashed by the bigger men and kept on coming. Scored the opening try with his support play and a brilliant step which left Darius Boyd grasping at air.
7. Mitchell Pearce (6)
In his 16th appearance for the Blues, he was composed. A couple of kids didn't go to plan but he scored a try from supporting James Tedesco to score the second try of his Origin career. Was knocked out in the 50th minute and had to leave the field.
8. Aaron Woods (6.5)
Made 75m in a 19 minute stint in the first half. Was solid without lighting the turf on fire. Produced some big hits.
9. Nathan Peats (6.5)
His job was to provide quick service and that's what he did.
10. Andrew Fifita (10)
Bloody brilliant. Was near impossible to stop at full steam. Made a damaging run with footwork to set up a try for James Maloney. A HIA test robbed him of valuable minutes but he made an instant impact upon returning to the pitch. Scored a try in the second half.
11. Josh Jackson (6)
A quiet achiever. Locked up the middle of the field when it was hot early with his superb defence. Made some purposeful runs and did everything asked of him.
12. Boyd Cordner (7)
The rookie skipper was his consistent self. He tackled hard and ran hard. Led by example. Pulled off a try saver on Darius Boyd late in the game.
13. Tyson Frizell (6)
Shifting to the backrow, Frizell made plenty of tackles but didn't quite make the impact you would've expected.
14. David Klemmer (8.5)
Churned through the work with ease. Made 100m in 21 minutes. A real headache for the Maroons.
15. Wade Graham (7)
He's made for this. He runs hard and straight.
16. Jake Trbojevic (6)
Solid debut. Handled the big stage well. Has a bright future ahead of him with his best to come.
17. Jack Bird (5.5)
Came on for Dugan in the 49th minute but shifted into the halves when Pearce went off injured.
