Orara shock Magpies for first win
ORARA Valley players and fans were left celebrating after the side snatched a shock 17-10 win against Bellinger Valley Dorrigo at Coramba Sportsground.
The win is the Axemen's first for the season and ends an embarrassing run of 13 straight losses dating back to last season.
The home side took advantage of a waterlogged Coramba Sportsground and played a 80 minutes of almost mistake free footy.
"We always knew we had a win in us and today our belief paid off," Orara captain coach Chris Shears said.
"Our high completion rate showed what a great performance it was from the boys and everyone dug deep to get us over the line.
"It is a great feeling to finally get a win and it helps build the confidence for the remaining rounds."
Leading 10-4 mid way through the second half, Shears was confident his team had the composure to stick it out until the very end.
"The boys didn't panic and when Nick Lythgo hit a field goal and then we scored a try it put all the pressure on Bello," he said.
"What was great to see was the way we defended when the Magpies put everything on the line to get the win.
"It was one of our best performances of the season and the players deserved the win."
A late try to Matt Donovan gave the visitors a sniff but it wasn't enough as the home team held on all the way to the final siren.
