Opera comes to the garden

A CLASSIC Mozart opera, the Marriage of Figaro, will unfold in a free community event at the North Coast Regional Botanic Garden on Friday April 29.

First performed in 1786 in Vienna, the opera was an immediate hit, layered with the comic twists and turns of a love story that has entertained audiences for the past 200 years.

Coffs Harbour City Council’s cultural development officer, Malcolm McLeod, said the event was a great opportunity to “see one of music’s best-loved operas in a beautiful, open-air and very relaxed setting.”

Refreshments from Fiasco Ristorante and Bar will be on sale and spectators should bring their own rug or chair.

The gates will open at 5.30pm and the opera will begin at 7pm.
