IT’S been a long time coming but Coramba is about to open a brand new-rural fire service station.
After a lot of campaigning and hard work, the Rural Fire Service Coramba Brigade will be officially opening their new and improved station at Short Street today.
“The last station was in a bit of a crowded area and it was a bit difficult to get to – this new station is in an open space and it’s easy for our brigades to get in and out,” Coffs Harbour Rural Fire Service Inspector Ron Collingridge said.
Funded partly by the Coffs Harbour City Council and the Rural Fire Service, the Coramba Brigade also tirelessly fundraised to ensure a special office premises was built on site.
“There is also a great little museum that people can come and look at, that houses some old equipment that used to be used in the brigade – every piece has its own story,” Mr Collingridge said.
The station will be officially opened at 2pm by the Commissioner of the Rural Fire Service and will be followed by a performance from Coramba’s own Vanessa Lea, whose video single ‘Oh Coramba’ features members of the brigade.
