AS Coffs Coast cycling's favourite son, Cadel Evans, makes inroads towards becoming the first ever Australian to win the Tour de France, another local cyclist
The Mid Winter Cycle Madness is the first event of its kind on the Coffs Coast and will feature a program of social bike rides, 16 inch bike racing, bicycle soccer and even bike tossing.
Organiser Evan Jeffery said although winter isn't the best time of year for an outdoor event, the day was chosen to coincide with the Tour de France.
“With climate change and high fuel prices, cycling is not just a great sport to play but also an alternative to using your car,” he said.
The Mid Winter Cycle Madness kicks off at 2.30pm on Saturday at the velodrome in Toormina with a social ride followed by a BBQ, and after the novelty events, the Tour de France will be screened live from 10pm.
