Elderly boom in Coffs

OLDER people will represent the fastest-growing section of the Coffs Coast population for the next 20 plus years, according to statistics collected by the NRMA.

These figures show while the Mid North Coast’s overall population will increase by 20% by 2031, the proportion of the population over 65 will increase by 120%.

While these figures include a number of retirement ‘hot spots,’ the figures for Coffs Harbour show these dramatic changes will be reflected in that city.

Coffs Harbour, with a population of 72,827, currently has 1130 people aged over 85, which is expected to increase to 5850 by 2036, an increase of more than 51%.

The population of Coffs Harbour people aged over 70 is now 7555 (11% of the population), but is expected to almost double in the same time, increasing to about 24,450 people by 2036, which will represent 24% of the population.

Coffs Harbour averages 1.5 vehicles per dwelling and 90.3% of dwellings have a private vehicle.
