Old Macksville motel damaged by blaze

A MACKSVILLE motel earmarked for demolition has been damaged by fire.

Fire crews were called to the vacant Golden Emblem Motel on the Pacific Highway at 5.45pm on Tuesday, and arrived to discover a blaze in the empty two-storey residence above the building.

Macksville Fire Station Commander, Bill Lenthall, said the residence and a stairwell sustained substantial fire damage. Firefighters were at the scene for 45 minutes.

Acting inspector with Kempsey police, Ann Joy, said officers were following 'a number of lines of inquiry at present', and police were further examining the scene yesterday.
