Oh Buoy! Washed up marker finally removed from Peregian
A LARGE buoy washed ashore in rough seas last month has been removed this morning.
Clayton's Towing brought in a crane to remove the navigational buoy from Peregian Beach.
The buoy used to mark the dive wreck of the HMAS Brisbane
A Maritime Safety Queensland spokesman at the time said it was not uncommon for buoys and other kinds of navigational aids to be lost, damaged or moved off station during severe weather.
"This particular buoy became dislodged in heavy seas. Maritime Safety Queensland has identified it as the north cardinal buoy for the dive wreck, ex-HMAS Brisbane," he said.
"Planning is now under way to recover the buoy as soon as tides allow.
