COFFS Harbour's iconic Coffs Ocean Swims are set to celebrate their 15th birthday this year.

With entries officially opening for this year's event organisers are hoping for another big field to hit the water on March 24.

Event organiser Mick Maley played up the swims place on the Coffs sporting calendar.

"The Coffs Ocean Swims are an iconic community event for Coffs Harbour," Maley said.

"We have a beautiful harbour and this event really showcases everything that is great about it.

"Also I think the fact it is a challenge and people love to push themselves is another big attraction behind the event."

Made up of a 600m swim around the jetty, a 2000m swim across the harbour and shorter children's events the ocean swims have an event for everyone to get involved.

"Many people are taking up the sport of ocean swimming," Maley said. "Some people train all year for the Coffs Ocean Swims and it is a big day on the calendar."

"Another aspect is the swims help raise money for local groups and organisations."

While entries are open right up until the morning of the event, Maley encouraged locals to sign on early.

You can enter online at villagesports.com.au with late entries incurring a $10 late fee.
