Parkinson's care gets a boost with new nurse
SAY hello to the Coffs Coast's new Parkinson's nurse.
Vince Carroll has more than 30 years experience working as a nurse across a range of health care roles.
Representatives from health service providers, charity and community groups welcomed Mr Carroll to the position during a special morning tea on Thursday.
He will provide services to people living with Parkinson's disease and other neurological conditions in the Coffs Harbour, Bellingen and Nambucca areas.
The three-year project is a partnership between Parkinson's NSW, the Mid North Coast Local Health District and North Coast Medicare Local.
He joins the Neurology Outreach Clinic and said he feels privileged to be in the role, recognising that it's more than a decade in the making.
The Coffs Harbour Parkinson's Support Group has fundraised since 2001 for improved Parkinson's services.
Vera Heil, who is a member of the group and also on the board of Parkinson's NSW, said since the clinic was opened back in 2003 they have been aware of the need for a neurology nurse and have been fundraising to that end.
"We are grateful for the support of all of the partners in this project who have helped to achieve the appointment of a neurology nurse."
