NSW player ratings

Matt Moylan 6

Limited involvement in first half but asked a few questions of the Maroons defence by popping up in the middle of the park in the second stanza.

Blake Ferguson 5½

Some strong returns and a brilliant effort in vain to try and stop Dane Gagai try. Needs to focus on the game and less niggle.

Michael Jennings 4½

Error led to Gagai try in first half. Largely starved of ball in first half. Raced up on Darius Boyd which led to Dane Gagai's second try. Unlucky fumbles late in the game denied his team two tries.

Dylan Walker 5½

Gave away two penalties in his first game as a starter at this level and kicked dead on the last tackle. Much better impact second half.

Josh Mansour 6½

Brought the ball back strong. Good yards in an iron-man effort and seems to belong at this level.

James Maloney 5½

Has been very impressive for the Sharks at club level this season, but a mixed bag in this game. Nice grubber and chase earned a dropout after 25 minutes. But then a knock-on in the play-the-ball with five minutes left in first half, and a poor pass sailed out after 39minutes. Showed good judgement and speed to score off an intercept in the second stanza.

Adam Reynolds 6

Didn't ask too many questions of the Queensland defence. Best part of his game was his kicking for goal. Beautiful little offload led to Tyson Frizell's try.

Aaron Woods 6½

Continues to improve at this level. Good left-foot step got him into space in the first half and some strong carries to follow.

Robbie Farah 6½

Got out of dummy-half well and running was nice and direct early. Nice vision out of dummy-half to spark the Blues' second try.

James Tamou 3

Made just 34m in 33 minutes.

Tyson Frizell 8½

Powerful running living up to his "brick wall" tag on Origin debut. Great tackle technique forced Greg Inglis to knock on in 31st minute. Deserving try-scorer to get the Blues back in the game.

Josh Jackson 6½

Solid in defence with 47 tackles but not enough punch in attack.

Paul Gallen (capt) 7½

Wholehearted performance with high workload in attack and defence again.

INTER

Greg Bird 5½

Had a target on Johnathan Thurston and nailed him in the first half. But also made an unforced error just 20m from the Queensland line. Not the same impact at this level as he once had.

David Klemmer 4½

Instant impact coming on late in the first half. Poor pass saw NSW surrender possession which led to Queensland's second try.

Andrew Fifita 4½

Collared Corey Oates on a break down left and put him into touch in 39th minute. Strong offload as usual.

Jack Bird 6½

A real talent and made a beautiful run late in the game only to be stopped by a brilliant Darius Boyd try-saver.
