Aidan's big moment arrived in the 15-year boy's 400m final where he raced away to win by a massive 10 metres in a time of 51.66 seconds.

He led the field from go to whoa, much to the delight of coach Debbie Blundell of Coastal Fitness Coaching.

"Aidan has a promising future in Australian athletics," Debbie said.

Apart from the gold, Aidan secured a bronze medal in triple jump with a leap of 12.56 metres.

As regional area champion he actually qualified in six events - 100m, 200m, 400m, long jump, high jump and triple jump.
