It's up to the fish to co-operate

IT’S on again, and it’s expected to be bigger and better than ever.

The Coffs Harbour Deep Sea Fishing Club will host the 2011 Easter Fishing Classic on April 22-24.

The major sponsor, North Coast Shed Market, has donated two aluminium boats, worth $5000, as lucky angler prizes for all adult entries.

To be eligible, anglers must attend at least one daily weigh-in and have their daily sheet signed off – even if they do not catch a fish.

“To cater for anglers of all levels, this year prizes will be awarded for ‘mystery weight’ fish caught as well as the heaviest fish so it is still worth weighing in your fish,” said Linda Jones from the organising committee.

“This opens up the competition, so anyone can win a major prize.

“All junior and sub-junior anglers will win a prize, even if they do not catch a fish – they will need to attend a daily weigh-in and have their sheet signed off. They will also get an icy pole each day at the weigh-in.

“Offering something for

everyone, the Easter Fishing Classic is divided into two competitions – the deep sea section and the beach, rock and estuary section.”

The fishing classic will start on Friday, April 22, at 6am when the deep sea boats will be led out of the harbour by police launch Victor and the Marine Rescue vessel.

“This is quite a spectacle to watch,” Mrs Jones said.

“Daily weigh-ins are Friday and Saturday between 1pm and 3pm and Sunday between 11am and 1pm.

“It is worth coming down to ‘The Fishos’ to see the proud smiles on the faces of the children who have caught a fish.

“Entries will be accepted from Monday, April 18, until 8pm on Thursday, April 21, and Friday, April 22, from 6am to 9am.

“The first 200 adult entrants receive a free T-shirt. Entry fees are $50 for adults and $10 for juniors and sub-juniors.”

Marine Rescue will again conduct a charity fish auction on Easter Sunday at 1pm.

All are welcome to attend the fishing club and support Marine Rescue by purchasing a fish caught during the fishing classic.

Entries will be accepted from Monday, April 18. Competition rules, information and entry forms are on the website www.deepseafishingclub.com.au or by phone 6652 1534.
