"Not cross buns" go on sale to protest early Easter sales

THE head of one of the country's biggest bakery chains has launched a "not cross buns" campaign against major supermarkets jumping the gun with the sale of their Easter fare.

Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses CEO Steve Plarre has called for the directors of Coles and Woolworths to pull hot cross buns from their shelves until closer to April 5.

The company will sell "not cross buns" decorated with smiley faces rather than crosses until late February in protest.

"I want my children to enjoy the anticipation and excitement that comes from having to wait for something special," Mr Plarre said.
