Letter to the Editor - June 24: Not all P-platers are bad
I'M A mature P-plater who only got my licence when I was 34.
I got my L's, then red P's, green P's and full licence after being tested by the RTA and having a driving test with an RTA representative.
I did a total of four tests in order to get my licence.
I am a safe driver who clearly understands the road rules after all this recent testing. Yes, there are some idiot P-platers but since I've been driving I see more idiot full-licenced drivers than idiot P-platers.
The general lack of regard for the speed limit, the use of indicators, when using a roundabout, giving way, driving in the left lane when there are double lanes and general sense, etc.
What if the RTA made the kind of testing they put new drivers through mandatory for drivers who have had their full licence for 15 years or more.
I'm sure more than half would fail the tests I've done, which says a lot about people's up-to-date knowledge.
There are some new road rules and signs and a refresher course for all drivers might help with safety on the roads.
