Nominations for volunteer of the year are open

IF YOU know someone who has done their part in the community, the NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards are fast approaching.

Coffs Harbour's State MP, Andrew Fraser, said there were a number of potential candidates this time around and that it was great to see them contributing their time to the wider community.

"Every day in the community I see volunteers giving their time and efforts to make the area a better place - in our emergency services, our schools, our sports clubs, our hospitals and our parks.

"They don't expect anything in return, but we as a community can make the effort to recognise and celebrate their priceless contribution," Mr Fraser said.

The NSW government will provide $30,000 towards the Volunteer of the year Award in a way of showing its thanks to the efforts made by volunteers.

Minister for Citizenship and Communities, Victor Dominello, also paid tribute to them and encouraged people to enter.

"This award honours the unsung heroes in our communities. I encourage people across NSW to nominate the volunteers that make a difference in their lives," Mr Dominello said.
