'Noeline will be here in 2019: Lightning dismiss NZ rumours

NETBALL: Sunshine Coast Lightning CEO Danielle Smith has knocked back suggestions that coach Noeline Taurua will leave the club and take the reins as the Silver Ferns boss.

Taurua is seen as an integral part of the Lightning puzzle, having guided the fledgling club to the inaugural title last season and the semi-finals this weekend.

According to New Zealand website Stuff, Taurua will sign with the international superpower once the Lightning's season is over.

It would mean Taurua would have to break her Lightning contract, which Smith dismissed.

"Noeline Taurua is contracted in her role as head coach until the end of 2019 and will continue to fulfil that commitment,” she said.

"She has played an instrumental role in the club's foundation and success and we're thrilled to have her on board for another season.”

The speculation comes days after the Lightning's epic 57-56 win over the Queensland Firebirds.

Lightning now turn their attention to last year's grand final opponents the Giants.

The winner will move into the grand final against the West Coast Fever in Perth on August 26.
