No worries, fun run the Australian way

SOME Coffs Coast residents will choose to spend Australia Day relaxing with family and friends and eating straight off the barbie before finding the closest body of water to wallow in.

Why? Because it's the Australian way - no worries.

Other families and members of our community will go to the other extreme and spend their Australia Day morning running in the 2009 Coffs Coast Fun Run.

All ages and levels of ability are expected to compete in the fun run and there is also the option of entering the team event, according to Coffs Harbour Surf Life Saving Club president Terry Maher.

“We are inviting families and businesshouses to put in four-person teams,” Mr Maher said.

Within each of the categories, competitors can compete in a 2km, 5km or 10km race. There will be no major prizes but certificates will be presented to winners of different events and every entrant will receive a ticket for the lucky draw prize.

“This is Coffs Harbour's first Australia Day Fun Run but if it is a success it may become a regular on the Coffs Coast calendar,” Mr Maher said.

“This is an experiment but it sounds like we are going to be a bit inundated.

“If it goes well it will become an annual event.”

Registration will commence in front of Coffs Harbour Life Saving Club at 7am and closes at 8.45am, for a 9am race start.

To avoid time delays organisers have asked competitors to fill out their entry forms, which can be found on page 39 of today's paper alongside a map of the courses, prior to registration.
