No luck for Ben at country champs
IPSWICH all-rounder Ben O'Connell couldn't repeat his stellar form at Bendigo last year as Queensland Country finished third at the Australian Country Cricket Championships at Mt Gambier.
The defending champions failed in its bid for back-to-back titles by winning three of its five matches.
Player of the tournament last year, O'Connell scored just 59 runs at an average of 11.9, but made up for it with a solid bowling performance taking five wickets at an average of 9.4.
His best performance came against East Asia Pacific, picking up four wickets in Queensland Country's final match of the tournament.
The Central Districts captain tore through East Asia Pacific's middle order and at one stage was on a hat-trick.
