No kitchen, no bathroom and $1 million price tag

A BRUNSWICK West cottage so run down that budding filmmakers wanted to use it as a horror movie set has a blockbuster price tag.

It does not have a bathroom or kitchen, but 70 Grantham St is on the market for $950,000.

The home, with its rickety floorboards, peeling walls and tatty curtains, caught the eye of a group of aspiring filmmakers looking for a horror movie set when it was listed for sale.

"Unfortunately I couldn't let them film, the floorboards would probably cave in," said Grantham Real Estate director Darren Barr.

Mr Barr said the three-bedroom home lacked everything from a kitchen to a bathroom, and had been vacant for a number of years since it's elderly owner passed away.

He said the home was beyond being a faded star.

"It's completely stuffed," Mr Barr said.

"You couldn't live in it if you wanted to."

While the building inspection might have been skipped, Mr Barr carried out his own inspection to ensure all ghosts had been busted.

"I can confirm it's not haunted," he said.

"I checked that when I first walked in."

He said while the home might look daunting, it had found plenty of appeal among potential buyers.

"We've had a huge number of inquiries," he said.

"The facade is in great nick, which is very helpful when a property has a heritage overlay like this one.

"We've had a number of builders come through that have said it's as solid as it was 70 years ago."

The home is touted as being a "true audition for The Block", with highlights including high ceilings, a bullnose veranda, and a 386sq m allotment, according to realestate.com.au.

The home is being offered for private sale with a price tag of $950,000.
