Editorial - Saturday, May 9: No gift can trump a mum’s love
MOTHERS hold their children's hands for just a short while but their hearts forever.
With regular chatter about society's great commercialisation of our annual celebrations, it can be said one day on the calendar is not about what you give but what you have been given.
That day is Mother's Day.
It's a day where clearly the size, price or prestige of the gift does not matter.
The pure essence of Mother's Day is the occasion.
Nothing should be more important than recognising life's greatest bond, the love, sacrifice, guidance, acceptance and pride of a mother.
It is true we never know the love of the parent until we become parents ourselves.
Or as another great lady summed it up once, we live life in black and white until we have children and from then on life is lived in colour.
As the Coffs Coast stops to celebrate with family tomorrow let it be remembered that no gift to your mother can ever equal her gift to you.
Happy Mother's Day to all mums on behalf of The Advocate team.
