No early opening for Kmart stores

RETAIL giant Kmart says it will withdraw its controversial application to trade before 1pm on Anzac Day in NSW, admitting it ‘got this one wrong’.

Its proposal to open its NSW stores, including the one in Toormina, during morning marches on Anzac Day sparked national outrage.

Kmart managing director Guy Russo says the company made the decision after an avalanche of complaints and criticism from politicians, former Diggers and customers.

“Having listened to the strength of feeling from our customers I will withdraw Kmart’s application for early trading on Anzac Day,” Mr Russo said.
