New waste site promotes tourism

BUILD it and they will come.

At least this is what Coffs Harbour City Council hopes to achieve with a new facility catering for the growing recreational vehicle fraternity.

A waste dump point designed for RV and caravan users is now in place at Phil Hawthorne Drive near Coffs Harbour's international stadium to promote the city as an RV-friendly town.

"The caravan and RV tourism market is huge in Australia and this is a great way of bringing more people into the city," said Coffs Harbour Mayor Keith Rhoades.

"By providing this dump point we can make sure that people with RVs and caravans have an appropriate facility where they can discharge their waste free of charge and it will also encourage them to stay longer and have a look around the region."

The new dump point is part of the RV Friendly Town scheme, an initiative of the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia.

The Dump-Ezy unit was provided to the council at no cost, with council staff undertaking the required water and sewer connections, as well as erecting the signage.

The dump point is designed to be identifiable, attractive and user-friendly with simple instructions for travellers to follow and its location will be listed on the CMCA website.

CCTV cameras will prevent illegal dumping and the waste flows will be monitored automatically to detect any abnormal activity.
