New speed warning signs for three North Coast towns

SPEED warning signs will be installed on the Pacific Highway outside three North Coast towns prompting motorists to slow down.

Under a $93,000 State Government initiative, the signs will be placed leading into Urunga, Macksville and Clunes.

Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) says the measures are to improve road safety in the villages.

"The signs have been installed as part of a $93,000 NSW Government funded project to improve road safety by advising motorists of their speed leading into Urunga, Macksville and Clunes," a RMS spokesperson said.

"The signs aim to provide early warning to motorists using the Pacific Highway to reduce their speed, improving safety in these towns.

"Road safety is significantly improved by providing early warning to road users encouraging them to slow down and drive cautiously.

The three towns have been identified as priority points for safety improvements until they are upgraded to four lane divided roadway, under the Pacific Highway upgrade.

"This is good news for the communities of Urunga, Macksville and Coffs Harbour, reducing the risk of dangerous speeding through their towns," the RMS said.

The signs will be installed from next week with completion expected by the end of April, weather permitting.
