New scam on Coffs Coast

IT'S the latest scam doing the rounds of the Coffs Coast and if you fall victim, you could do your hard-earned dough.

The Holiday Coast Credit Union says you should be wary of telephone callers offering to reimburse overcharged bank fees or seeking payment for any other fictional purpose.

“Holiday Coast has recently received reports from members that have been targeted by these scams,” said the credit union's chief executive officer Neville Parsons.

“In these cases members have received calls where the caller purports to be from Holiday Coast Credit Union, asking for information or funds to either issue a refund for fees or to correct a fraud on their account.

“The scammers, whose calls appear to be coming from a busy foreign call centre, ask for bank account details or confirmation of details and at times appear to have a lot of personal information about the people they are calling, including dates of birth, who they bank with and also, in some cases, account types and account numbers.”
