New road name down the Way as council expected to approve

COUNCILLORS are expected to approve a name change of what is set to become the Old Pacific Hwy at tonight's council meeting.

Sections of the Pacific Hwy and service roads formed as part of the Sapphire to Arrawarra Highway upgrade will soon be known as Solitary Islands Way after tonight's meeting.

The gazettal of the new road name will take place upon completion of the Sapphire to Arrawarra Highway upgrade.

Council is the responsible authority for renaming sections of highway that come under Council control and the sections to be transferred to Council ownership will link with Hoys Road at Moonee Beach, Graham Drive at Sandy Beach and Clarence Street, Woolgoolga, forming a new service road from Sapphire to Arrawarra.

Properties located on the new service road will be required to undergo a change of address with renaming of the roadway.

A total of 32 public comments were submitted during the public consultation period. Of that number, 19 of the submissions said they preferred the change to Solitary Islands Way while another didn't state a preference either way.
