New political party launched

TWO Toowoomba men from opposite political backgrounds are set to launch Australia’s newest political party.

Former state Labor MP Peter Pyke and former media adviser to a Liberal minister, Graham Higgins, announced today they would lead the new Republican Democrats Party into the next federal election.

Mr Pyke said the new party heralded the end of "Ford versus Holden" politics in Australia.

He said he had already had a strong response from people all across Australia since the announcement this morning.

"We expect the emergence of the Republican Democrats in Australia to dramatically change the dynamics of Australian politics," Mr Pyke said.

"The Rep Dems offer voters a safe alternative to the major parties where their votes will count and our country need not risk radical Greens’ policies."
