New mental health service for families

INTERRELATE has opened a new mental health service for families on the Coffs Coast.

The free service, known as 'Connect', provides assistance for families and children where a child's mental health and wellbeing are at risk.

Annamarie Cohen, who is the manager for the Connect service, said it can help when there are concerns a child or young person may not be coping.

"As a parent you may have noticed changes in your child that seem uncharacteristic - behavioural or mood changes, becoming socially withdrawn, worrying excessively, violent outbursts, change in school performance etc.

These issues may be occurring because they are experiencing stresses that are putting them at risk of poor mental health," Annamarie said.

"If you think your family can relate to this, rest assured that you are not alone.

"I encourage you to give us a call and see how we can help. Interrelate's Connect service will work with your family to address any difficulties you are facing and develop a plan to assist you to improve the situation."

Key Facts and Figures

Connect can help families where there is a child or young person between 0-18 years to connect with their community and appropriate services, access groups and courses to enhance their skills, deal with challenges they are facing and liaise with schools and other services to help get the support they would like.

Contact Interrelate's Connect service on 1300 654 269 or connectmnc@interrelate.org.au.
