Never too early to start

EVEN before a ball is kicked or a tackle is made in the season proper, VB Gold Group 2 clubs will be engaged in their biggest-ever preliminary schedule of matches.

Four clubs have agreed to participate in a self-contained tournament at the NRL trial between South Sydney and Penrith at BCU International Stadium on Saturday, February 14.

Orara Valley and Woolgoolga will renew acquaintances made in their epic grand-final stoush when combining with Sawtell and Bellinger Valley-Dorrigo to play a tailor-made 'super sevens' competition that will feature a round robin competition leading to a tournament winner, all taken care of in around 90 minutes.

The Group's chief administrator Jim Anderson said the clubs will then begin their own individual pre-season campaigns.

“We've organised official trials over two weekends in March but most coaches will opt for extra matches,” he said.

“Also, we have to receive formal advice for trial matches in or out of the Group and please be aware of the safety of players and officials during the hot weather and stormy months of January, February and March when arranging games.”

Certain clubs have traditional trials that take place every year while Bellinger Valley-Dorrigo will break new ground by playing host to an Australian Army XIII at Bellingen Park.

The Oxley Region trials to select the senior and under-18 representative teams will also be held at Bellingen Park on Saturday, April 4.
